Mathematics

The Georgia Mathematics standards are designed to achieve a balance among concepts, skills, and problem solving. The standards stress rigorous course development and real-world applications while maintaining a strong emphasis on computational and procedural skills.

What will my student learn in math?

The 7th and 8th standards are organized using domains, overarching ideas that connect topics across the grades, clusters that illustrate progression of increasing complexity from grade to grade, and standards which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These standards include skills and knowledge – what students need to know and be able to do, as well as mathematical practices – habits of mind that students should develop to foster mathematical understanding and expertise. The 7-8 standards are organized in the following domains:

  1. Ratios and Proportional Relationships,

  2. The Number System,

  3. Expressions and Equations,

  4. Functions,

  5. Geometry, and

  6. Statistics and Probability.

Having built a strong foundation in K-6, students are prepared for robust learning in geometry, algebra, and probability and statistics in junior high.

Our mathematics courses include:

  • Grade 7 Mathematics

  • Grade 8 Mathematics

  • Enhanced Algebra:  Concepts and Connections - Students will receive high school algebra credit when successfully completing this course.

  • Foundations of Algebra - This course will be for high school credit. It will not count as a required math credit if the student is attending a 4 year college/university.
